Hazelwood necklaces

The Native Americans were the first to discover that if they were to put Hazelwood (Corylus cornuta) chips on their babies’ neck it would soothe teething pains. This lost art was revived only a decade ago when a few companies in Quebec, Canada (where the Hazelwood trees grow indigenously) rediscovered the unique properties of Hazelwood.

Healing Properties of Hazelwood

Hazelwood has the medicinal property of neutralizing the body's acidity (pH). By neutralizing the body’s pH, Hazelwood helps to alleviate the symptoms associated with infant teething, including fevers, diaper rash, inflamed cheeks and teething rash. In addition to helping alleviate teething symptoms. Hazelwood has been found to effectively treat skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and hives. Furthermore, Hazelwood helps to relieve or prevent ailments such as ulcers, acid reflux, heartburn, skin problems (psoriasis, eczema, and acne), arthritis and arthrosis, constipation, and migraines.

How does Hazelwood work?

Hazelwood is an alkaline wood and has the natural property of absorbing and neutralizing the body's acidity through contact with the skin. Acidic conditions in the human body can cause serious health problems if they go untreated. Acidic conditions force the body to borrow minerals – including calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium – from vital organs and bones to neutralize the acid and safely remove it from the body. Using Hazelwood will greatly reduce the stress placed on your body to continually try to balance your acidity level and bring your body into an alkaline state. This will aid in relieving or preventing many of the symptoms caused by this unbalanced acidity.

Are Hazelwood teething necklaces safe? Hazelwood is completely 100% natural and handmade right from the gathering of the wood to the threading of the necklaces. The string used for the necklaces is made from a metal thread covered in a softer plastic.

Caring for your Hazelwood:

Hazelwood will not be damaged by a small amount of water; however, do not leave it in a constant wet state and please take it off before showering or bathing and to be safe, we recommend that you avoid getting your Hazelwood necklace wet whenever possible. If it does get wet, be sure to allow it to completely dry out. Please do not let soaps or shampoos come into contact with your Hazelwood.

When your Hazelwood necklace or bracelet turns dark on the ends or symptoms return, it is time to replace your necklace or bracelet with a new one. Generally 3 - 6 months. This style of necklace is a combination of Hazelwood beads and semi-precious beads. It is threaded on a thin stainless wire coated in nylon, and has a twist style barrel clasp. The clasp assembly is done in 14kt gold plate or sterling silver plate. There is a jump ring link at the clasp, it will break if excessive force is applied. Should the necklace break at the jump ring, all the beads will remain threaded. Be aware that any piece of jewelry when tugged will cause damage to the skin, such as cuts and bruising.

Sizing your necklace:

Size is important! Selecting the proper size of amber teething jewelry for the baby that is going to wear it is another important safety issue. A necklace should be big enough to make the wearing comfortable for your little ones but small enough to make it difficult for baby to put necklace in the mouth. A baby's necklace should never hang lower than their chin but should be loose enough for an adult to fit 2 fingers between the necklace and the child's neck.

Recommended sizing is as follows: Up to 6 months – 10.5” Up to 18 months – 11.5" - 12.5”

The weight and size of your child matters: If your child is very young or small, the 10.5 inch is appropriate. If your child is very large or closer to 2 years old, the 11 or 12 inch would be more suitable.

Children over 2 years: 2-4 years old – 12.5” – 13” 4-6 years old – 13” – 13.5”

Know your child (big or small for their age) and a quick measurement never hurts!

For Adults:

Necklaces for women: 14 inch, 16 inch, 18 inch

Necklaces for Men: 18 inch, 20 inch, 22 inch

Although the size is not AS important for adults, you still want a semi-snug fit as the necklace only works if it is laying against your skin!

Your first concern should always be for the safety and wellbeing
of the children in your care wearing the jewelry.

Please use caution and supervise your child while using the necklace, it should not be worn by any infant or child unsupervised. Necklaces should be removed when baby is sleeping or unattended, to prevent the risk of strangulation!
For babies and young children, the necklace should be short enough to not be able to reach the child's mouth.
Necklaces are made for wearing, not for chewing, and should not be gummed or mouthed by the wearer. Beads will crack and break under too much pressure.
Inspect the necklace often for sharp edges and loose or damged beads. If the string or wire starts to degrade it is time to restring.
